Women Owned Businesses on the Rise
Printz.com is owned by myself, our partner Phlayne Anderson and our partner Kurt Johnson. We are all equal partners and a 66% woman owned business. Its great to see the rise of women owned businesses. What is also amazing to me is how many women also sit on volunteer boards, work in their communities, help raise families and also have time for outside interests and sometimes even other businesses outside of their main business ventures which I see alot in the food crafter world. My partners are gracious enough to let me explore my food passions with the Weekly Dish radio show I do on Saturdays from 1-2pm on My Talk 107.1FM. At times this requires long lunches, wine dinners, tastings and TV appearances (I know - rough job but someones got to do it:)It is nice to know we support each other not only in our business but personal endeavors as well.
Here is an article and a research study that talks in more detail about the rise in Women Owned Businesses:
Census data reinforces the economic power of women-owned businesses
(July 12, 2010) - Preliminary results released this week by the U.S. Census Bureau from the 2007 Survey of Business Owners (SBO) shows an increase of 20.1 percent in women-owned businesses since 2002, accounting for 7.8 million non-farm U.S. businesses.
A 2010 Member Survey by the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) indicates the trend will continue, not only in women starting new businesses, but also in the growth and expansion of existing businesses. The NAWBO survey shows 34 percent of members expected the hire new workers and 21 percent planned to increase capital investment in 2010.
"Women business owners are often very resilient because of the challenges they face in starting and growing their businesses," said NAWBO Chair Kelly Scanlon. "Women also have a natural apptitide for business marketing and tend to be more creative and grassroots in their campaign - all key in helping them thrive."
