If you are like many of us, you wont be going to Target Field Tonight – instead you will be parking your bootie on the couch with a giant spread of Take Out food. It’s a Wednesday night after all and nothing is better than picking up the TV viewing meal and eating it out of the plastic containers while you cheer on the Twins and get into a “Twins State of Mind.” Here are my favorites tonight – “Go Twins”
Rainbow Chinese – Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis:
Tammy Wong is one of my favorite Chinese Chefs in town. Here you will find all your favorite ooey, gooey candied sauces on fried bits of golden chicken goodness but you can also find some fusion favorites that add a Twin Cities twist like Whole Fried walleye Pike with black bean sauce – I really love the turnip cakes dunked in soy sauce and the moo shoo pork with the delicate Chinese crepes.
Dominos Pizza, Various Twin Cities Locations
OK what I will confess about this is Dominoes new pizza formula is fine. What I love though is tracking my pizza live online on my I-pad while I have my feet up watching the game. You can track your pizza as it leaves the shop and follow it GPS style all the way to the delivery person knocking on your door. This is technology at its finest.
Black Sheep Pizza, 600 Washington Ave N, Minneapolis
This pizza place has really won me over. Because its so close to the actual Twins Stadium your best bet here is to go there at lunch and eat one of their delicious local ore salads (try the one with Pears and walnuts) then get their meatball, garlic and Ricotta pizza to go for later. This is one of my favorite pies in the Twin Cities – the meat is flavored just like mamas meatballs.
Harry Sings Caribbean, 2653 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis MN
Get the Chicken Roti. For me this is amazing comfort food. You get a giant chickpea pancake stuffed with stewed chicken, carrots and toasty spices all floating in a yummy saucy gravy and wrapped up burrito style. Order a side of hot wings.
Famous Daves, Various Twin Cities Locations
I love chicken wings and Famous Daves spicy bbq hot wings are the way to go here. They fall off the bone and have a lovely grilled char that makes the sauce super gooey on the wing. I like these better than the fried wings and lets face it – the family feast that they offer up with two types of meat and all the fixings cant be beat for a hungry group of three of four and the best part… you can sub in the wings for your meat. PS ask for extra ranch dipping sauce – they make their own and its delicious.
Pizza Luce – Various Twin Cities locations
Everyone loves a thick and saucy Ruby Rae Pizza from Luce. They put the cheese on the bottom of this one and the sauce on top, which gives the pie a lovely texture. They really spice their sausage with a strong pepper and fennel flavor, which I love. Lastly get the side Caesar salad and ask for extra dressing. When you get it home toss it in a big bowl with the dressing and add the squeeze of lemon that comes with it and your family will swear you made it fresh.
Fuji-ya – St. Paul and Minneapolis
Sushi to go. You have to be in the mood but when you are the sushi Fuji Ya puts out is divine. I always ask for them to make me two rolls that are “cooks choice” so you can make sure to take advantage of whatever fish is inspiring them at the moment and I get a spicy spider roll with avocado and the spicy siracha mayo. Lastly something to try is the Spinach Gomae – it is steamed spinach with a spicy sesame paste mixed in. It tastes like spinach and peanut butter a strange combo but I promise its divine.
El Burrito Mercado- 175 Cesar Chavez Street St Paul
El Burrito always has tamales stuffed and ready to purchase in chicken, pork and vegetarian. Spice that up with a side of black beans and rice, a bag of chips, their homemade guacamole and queso from the deli and you have a feast fit for a game. The other way to go is to get a pint of Babacoa (think spicy beef pot roast) some tortillas, refried beans, an onion and cilantro and make your own tacos right in front of the TV. This is always a great take out spread and can be stretched to feed lots of people with the chips and salsa.
